Walked from the main train station a few blocks to our hotel in then center of the historic district. We then took off to discover the city. I got us lost the first thing. I left the hotel going the wrong direction and when we discovered it we were already off the map! Once we got situated Wayne took over directions for Florence. We started by finding the place where we were going to see “The David” early the next morning. After that we decided to head for the river to see the Ponte Velcchio bridge, an ancient pedestrian bridge filled with jewelry shops. The people watching was great! We watched the sunset from the bridge…Beautiful! We then went back to our room for an early morning the see DAVID The next morning at 8 am we were at the beginning of the line to see Michelangelo’s David. We’d gotten there 20min earlier but were the first in line and decided we needed a cappicino and a croisant more. We ended up being about 5 th in line (behind people for Cedar Hills and Happy Valley!) After this visit to the Accademia, we went to El Dumo ,no line, and climbed another 460 steps to the top of the Dome for spectacular views of Florence.
After a nap for me and computer time for Wayne, we decided to wander the streets some more. We chose the river area because it was so beautiful the night before. We walked cross a different bridge and realized we were close to Piazzale Michelangelo. Just about a 30 min hike up a hill… It was well worth the hike! There was a guitar player in the Piazza , the weather was perfect and the view amazing! There is a Dominican church nearby, we hiked the rest of the way to that and the monks Gregorian chants.
Again very peaceful.
We walked home another great dinner and prepared for our trip to Cinque Terre (A whole lot of packing How did the suitcases shrink so much!)
