Days 5 & 7 - The Everglades

Sunday February 24: First stop The Everglades. What fun! We stopped at the Ernest Coe Visitor Center for a map, and watched a brief movie on the Everglades.

Second stop was the Royal Palm Visitor Center. And the Anhinga Trail. I had been here years before in Dec with Geoff Marilee and Jerry. We did not see anything. What a difference a little water makes! There were alligators all over the place. I even saw a baby alligator only about a foot long! There were numerous birds, a couple turtles, lots of different types of fish. We saw several meals being consumed, good for some…not so good for others. Then back to the car for 158 mile trip. Our goal Key West!

Monday February 25: We had reserved the latest time for the Shark River Tour in the Everglades, and it was a good thing. It took every minute to get there. If anyone ever goes to the Everglades this is a must! The guides were excellent! We learned more about the eco system, birds, history, alligators and these two hours than my whole life! We were almost ready to be birders…..well, not really….but it was eye opening.

We finished our day in darkness, pulling into our hotel in Naples very late.
