Sanibel Island

Tuesday February 26: We woke up to a cloudy day but Naples is beautiful. It is like a 40 miles Lake Oswego, an area of beautiful people, homes and yards. On the East side (the Atlantic Ocean side). There were huge homes along A1a but real poor areas just to the west. Here’ in Naples, we only saw the nice side. It ended abruptly when we left the area as we traveled north.

We arrived in Sanibel around noon. Sanibel is an Island just west of Ft Meyers. We drove the island and up to Captiva. Unfortunately there was a red tide in the area and there were dead fish on the beach. The weather was predicting thunder storms and it was very cloudy. It was not a great start to the “high point on the trip”. After moving into our room, we took a walk on “our” beach, but it started to rain. After a brief rest we walked to the Lighthouse. The lighthouse is a major landmark on the island and a short stroll from our room. It was a pleasant evening after the storm. It was a pleasant break in the humidity.

We watched the 5 th in the series of the first season the Downton Abby. (We watched three on the plane, one in Stuart)
