Karen & Wayne's Trip to Oaxaca, Mexico
Feb 3 to 13, 2011
We spent a relaxing but full ten days in Oaxaca, a non-tourist destination city in the south of Mexico with a population of 500,000. Unstructured but we kept busy every day exploring around the town on foot and a couple of days outside of town by hired car. Denise was kind enough to be our guide, translator, and friend. She has been living there for the past four years after retiring there from Vancouver BC. Our cozy B&B was in the center of town, a few minutes walk from a park, the main square and several interesting places we explored. Colorful markets with artists goods and interesting food. Oaxaca is 5000 feet above sea level and the nearby mountains rise an additional 1600 to 2000 feet. A climate somewhat similar to the high desert in central Oregon in the summer.
