Montreal First Two Days - May 7-8, 2011

These are some of our pictures taken our first two days in Montreal (we have many more for later). We started with a car tour, Wayne remembering his youth here. We first stopped in Vieux Montreal. One picture shows the painted tarp hiding the scaffolding in front of City Hall. It is hardly noticeable from a distance! You can see City Hall in the background of me the tulips and city hall you don’t notice the scaffolding at all.

I had fun with the statues! I especially liked the hearts and the baby since it is Mothers Day!!! Oh, also the one with me reaching out to Geoff and Marilee! I included one of you and me too, Dad!

Wayne used to live on a smaller island called Nun’s Island. It was just beginning to be developed when he left there 30 yrs ago. What a change today. I took a short bike ride on a rented bike, but since Wayne wasn’t able to join me (long story.. Let’s just say the machine won) the ride was way too short.

We walked over 7 miles today!!! We had to! We went Schwartz’s Deli and had classic Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwiches (Rose’s would envy these) Montreal Cole Slaw and Fries!!! Quite the place…See picture of Wayne with a bunch of people behind him! They stuff you into tables like cattle, but the food was worth it.

Some of the building pictures may seem boring; it is not my usual style. But the architecture is stunning in its beauty and variety. I hope you can appreciate it from the pictures. Some buildings are 300 or more years old, next to modern buildings of the most interesting shapes and materials. Churches are everywhere… One a smaller replica of Paris’s Notre Dame… see picture…the inside was amazing!

Hope you have fun with the pictures…cuz there will be more!!!
