Black Butte Trail
We hiked up to the summit of Black Butte, a 2-mile hike with a 1600' elevation gain. Quite steep is many places with a slope varying from 15% to over 30%. Wonderful views the whole way from wooded areas at the start to open fields with sharp drop offs higher up. At the top a full 360 degree view of Central Oregon with several mountain peaks and valleys visible. This has been a forest ranger lookout station for 100 years. The original lookout built in 1910 is still there near the newer tower built in 1995.
