Paris - Day Five - Tour Eiffel and Pere Lachaise Cemetery

Well…the weather forecast for today was hot and 79 degrees. It was to be the best day of the week for the Eiffel Tower! Actually, it was overcast when we got up, but that can change. We took the Metro to the Eiffel Tower, still clouds. We decided to go up anyway. The wait line was about 60 minutes the first elevator ride, then about 45 minutes for the second level. What a waste of the morning….Until we got to the top! We missed a great rain shower! Everything was soaked! When we got there the view was great, but restricted due to the clouds. As we waited, through a thunderstorm and a bit more rain, the clouds lifted a bit. I wanted to wait until Sacre-Coeur in clear sky and was bright white like yesterday. It never happened. Hunger won out and we left about an hour later, but we still enjoyed the view from the top.

We left to get on bus #69. It is a city bus that goes from the Eiffel Tower to Pere Lachaise Cemetery, where many famous people are buried. It goes along St Dominique, St Germain Blvd, the Seine River and Notre-Dame, most all the area we had been walking the past three days! It was interesting seeing all from another perspective. It was also amazing to see what we knew of the city the short time we’ve been here. This is our little section of home right now.

The cemetery was huge and the monuments most impressive. We located just three, Jim Morrison, Frederic Chopin and Oscar Wilde. There was a bronze statue prone on Wilde’s grave, very interesting. He died in 1890’s but had notes and flowers fresh on the grave!

We took the bus back as far as the Le Marais district. Shopped a bit, and ate and then home. Wayne has been busy hours going through out hundreds of pictures of the view and areas we rode through….I slept. Ahhhhh vacation!!!
