Paris - Day Six - Vincent van Gogh at Auvers sur Oise

Saturday we took a metro ride underground to the outskirts of Paris and the over ground train to Pontoise. At that point we transferred to an older train for a short ride to Auver-sur-Oies, the town Vincent Van Gogh spent his last 90 days, before committing suicide on July 27, 1890. This was one of his most productive periods. He made, don’t quote me, 40 pictures in this time. We hiked through the town seeing the locations of many of his pictures, unchanged for over 100 years. We walked to his grave and saw the small room he was living in at the time of his death. The town was very picturesque we took a LOT of pictures. One of the reasons we took so many pictures was when we went back to the train station to find out the next train back to plan the remaining trip (we thought about 30 minutes) we found out we had missed the last train for 2 hours!!! They take a 2 hour break mid-afternoon! Well, one bakery shop later….boy if I don’t gain weight on this trip it will be a miracle! Once we got on the train…2 hours later, our next connection was only 4 minutes! A restful trip back to Paris and home! We went to our usual people viewing spot at Metro Café on Saint Germain…we saw our first motor scooter car accident… and then home
