Paris - Day 8 - Jardins de Monet, Arc du Triomphe and Tour Eiffel at night

Our day did not begin well; we did not get started right away. When Wayne looked at the time, we had an hour to finish breakfast and get to the train station. Still, we thought we could do it. We were out in no time, but then the bus was about 20 min late! We were still okay, until the bus was stopped by an official motorcade while going through the government area. Still we had a chance….2 train companies, one on each end of the train station!!!! We chose the wrong one, as we got to the right one the train was pulling away….Now a 2 hour wait for the next train! We started for a walk and for an interesting store of household stuff. (Things were looking up) A couple of fun purchases later…We found a book store with French pithy sayings. A few more purchases, back to the train station and it was time to board! (AHH it is all better)

The train ride was north along the Seine River to the Normandy area of France. The scenery was beautiful. We took a bus to Giverny, the town Monet lived in around 1883. We toured his home and the gardens he grew and were his inspiration for a lot of his impressionist paintings. The Gardens reminded me a lot of Mom’s gardens. There were a lot of the same plants and plant combinations Mom had used! We strolled and photographed to our hearts content (about 1-2 hours ) and took the bus back to Vernnon. We had an hour to wait for that train, so found a bakery and I had a custard flan and Wayne a fruit tart. (I thought I was enough, especially after Pigalle, but he wanted fruit!) (Things are now great)

Back to the train for the ride home, arriving in Paris about 6. We decided to walk to the Arc de Triumph. We thought it would be dark by then, we were too fast and waited about another hour for dark. (oh, we needed a baguette and cheese for tonite), And then the Arc was lit (After a well known Paris adventure hunt, Where-to-Find-a-WC—our answer was buy frites at Mc Donalds) The lit upArc was beautiful! We then caught the 63 bus directly to the Eiffel tower and made it there just as the light show was getting underway! The whole tower just sparkles and flashes for 10 minutes every hour. It was beautiful, amazing, breathtaking….(AAAhhhhh,) Then we found a bus a block away that would take us to 1 block from out apt and it was due in 4 minutes!!!!(Life is Grand!!) Wine cheese baguette and bed!!!!
